Caracas, Oct 14 (EFE).- The ceo of the NGO Foro Penal, Alfredo Romero, announced on Thursday that there are 260 people detained in Venezuela who can be considered "political prisoners," one less than in the balance sheet released last week by the organization.

According to information published by the activist on Twitter, there are 245 homes and 14 women incarcerated. By occupation, there are 133 military personnel and 127 civilians, the source said.

In addition, the NGO Foro Penal also indicated that it has records about a teenager in the custody of venezuelan authorities.

The organization recalled that since 2014, it has recorded 15,747 arrests for political reasons and that it has provided assistance to more than 12,000 citizens who are already at large today.

In addition, more than 9,000 people in Venezuela face "restrictive freedom measures," according to the NGO.

Last September 6, in the ngo's most recent bulletin, it was reported that 42 of the 262 citizens considered political prisoners in Venezuela were "in critical health".

Last Tuesday, the NGO reported that 12 political prisoners died in the country, who had been in state custody since 2014.

The organization's information was released two days after the announcement of the death of venezuela's former defense minister and former ally of Hugo Chávez, Raúl Isaias Baduel.

According to the country's attorney general, Tarek William Saab, the Army general, who had been in prison since 2009, died of a cardiorespiratory arrest due to covid-19.

The military's family denied infection with the new coronavirus, and his daughter, Andreina Baduel, said yesterday that her father was murdered by the Venezuelan government.

The lawyer of the Baduel family, Omar Mora Tosta, assured, in an interview with the station "VPI", that the cause of death of the military needs to be investigated and that a request has already been made for the delivery of the body.

"Let it not happen as in other cases, in which they get dismembered or cream people at pleasure," said the representative.

In addition, Mora Tosta said he will call for an investigation by an "international commission" to determine the causes of the former minister's death, ensuring there is no credibility in the attorney general's version. EFE
